Affirmation Monday #5
"Don't think of it as pain, think of it as an interesting sensation that requires all of your attention."
Said by none other than midwife extraordinaire Ina May Gaskin.
Labour pain is fascinating because it's not an emergency pain. It's painful, yes. Most women who have had babies can tell you that. But it's a different feeling than if you were to have, say a deep cut in your skin.
It's a pain that our bodies are able to handle (we're only given as much as we can take). A pain that is natural and supposed to happen. There's no use in worrying about it because it is completely normal, we just need to allow it.
When you instead try to think of it as what it is, your uterus contracting to help push your baby down, the pain won't be as bad. Try not to think of it as a horrible thing that is being done to you, but rather your body doing what it needs to do. And hopefully, you will be able to relax into it and work your magic!
